A View From My Windows! (A look back on my year as a Microsoft Windows Champion)
The first thing people think of when it comes to fashion bloggers is well… fashion. As much as I like the thought of this it sometimes makes it extremely hard to explain to others that there is much more to fashion bloggers than pretty clothes and the word fashion. While Armani is considered a fashion brand it’s not the be all end of who we represent or even discuss for that matter. In fact, if you dig a little deeper what you’ll find is what a blogger ultimately stands for is not just about fashion; but instead, it’s about social trends, technology, and representation of consumers. Surprise! Alright, so not really, but to some making this point is like handing them Rosetta Stone. It should be easy to comprehend but in the end they’re still learning a foreign language.
One of the bigger pieces that people tend to forget about is the ever-growing group of tech savvy bloggers who design their own websites, take their own photos, and handle their own businesses. Technology plays a huge part in our lives and deciding what programs to use and what computers to blog on is something a blogger tends to talk about…and…about…and…about. Don’t get me wrong I’m not on my way to coding a site in PHP or pretend to even act like I actually know what that stands for, but I am on my computer everyday for a solid 5 – 10 hours along with staying up-to-date with any social trends that could enhance the experience for my readers!
Over this past year, I’ve been lucky enough to have been given VIP access (alright so they didn’t call it that, but it sounds cool) to everything Windows! I got the opportunity to give away the ultimate accessory, learn about new things that I had no idea existed, and carry around a piece of light weight hardware with a little swag. One of the highs included in the Windows Champion program was from the day that I hosted a reoccurring Tuesday Twitter Chat appropriately titled #WinChat7 with the Windows Team just before attending fashion week. It drove enough traffic to my site that it caused it to crash for a few minutes. One of the lows was when I realized that I’d been blogging for two and half years without using Windows Live. No worries. It’s not like it changed my life or anything (sarcasm).
To sum this all up, working with Microsoft as a Windows Champion has been an amazing adventure for a girl who once suffered from Cholera on the Oregon Trail and lived to tell about her days as a question mark on Facebook. Needless to say, I’ve come a long way from transitioning from college into the real world and thanks to being a Windows Champion, they’ve help me come even further!
**I am a part of the Windows Champions blogger program. As part of this partnership, I have been loaned a Windows 7 PC for an entire year and have the opportunity to learn about Windows and Microsoft products. I’m looking forward to sharing the inside scoop with fellow 20 somethings & fashion bloggers.**
